Course Details
Course Details
This Hybrid Course on Inspection & Quality Control is meticulously designed to equip students and practicing engineers with industry-relevant skills essential for the Quality Assurance (QA) functions in automotive and mass-production industries. The course blends 30 hours of online learning with 10 hours of practical hands-on sessions at the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC), IITM Research Park, Chennai – 600113, providing real-world exposure to inspection and quality control processes.
It offers in-depth coverage of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), engineering drawing interpretation, 7 QC tools, and industrial gauge design using live manufacturing examples. Learners develop both theoretical knowledge and applied competence aligned with modern manufacturing standards.
Course Modules
Module 1 – GD&T Fundamentals: Introduction, rules, and application of GD&T; form tolerances – flatness, straightness, circularity, and cylindricity; snap-gauge design for 8 mm shaft OD.
Module 2 – Orientation & Location Tolerances: Orientation, profile, position, run-out, concentricity, and symmetry tolerances with practical applications.
Module 3 – Engineering Drawing & GD&T Practice: Interpretation of drawings, limits & fits, surface-finish symbols, and 20 industrial examples including valve, housing, shaft, washer, and adapter.
Module 4 – Quality Tools (7 QC Tools): Cause-and-effect diagram, Pareto chart, control charts, scatter diagram, histogram, stratification, check sheets, and case studies.
Module 5 – Plug Gauge Design: Concept, design steps, and 5–6 examples such as valve body ID, bearing bore Ø35 mm, coupling hole Ø50 mm, piston pin bore, and adapter recess depth; validation and assessment.
Module 6 – Snap Gauge Design: Design for 8 mm OD, 37 mm width, 65 mm OD, 110 mm height, 12 mm groove diameter, 2 mm groove width; inspection methodology.
Module 7 – Flush Pin Gauge Design: Design for measuring component, groove, and thread depths; dial-type gauge for interior hole depth.
Module 8 – Advanced Gauge Design & Final Assessment: Design of flush-pin gauges for groove-depth position and height between unmeasurable or obstructed faces; final industrial assessment and project.
Module 9 – Tolerance Stack-Up & Mechanical Assembly Applications: Application of tolerance stack-up in real mechanical assemblies with live examples at AMTDC, IITM Research Park, Chennai.Duration & Effort
Total Duration: 40 Hours (30Hours Online + 10Hours Practical at AMTDC) | 9 Weeks | Effort: 4 – 6 hours per week.
Course Access Period: 6 Months (from the date of enrollment)
